Welcome to a Brand-New Year!
January and February usually bring forth bus cancellation days due to inclement weather. Please make sure you are receiving bus cancellation notices by visiting www.mybrucegreyschoolbus.ca
Now that we are into winter please remember to send your child to school with appropriate outdoor wear, winter boots, snow pants, hats and mitts. We have a beautiful large yard and students are really enjoying the snow!
We are very appreciative of parents and guardians following all of the Public Health guidelines and the courteousness we receive when we need to make phone calls home. We just want to remind parents that they should continue to ensure students are feeling well before coming to school and keep in mind that students will still have to go home if they are feeling unwell. Thank you for continuing to monitor their health prior to the school day beginning!
This year staff and students will focus on a character trait each month. For the month of January HCCS will be focusing on trustworthiness and for February we will be focusing on honesty. Please keep our character education initiatives in mind and speak to your child about what it looks like, feels like and sounds like. Building strong character helps students develop life-long skills that will lead them to success.
My door is always open and I value your input and feedback. My goal is to provide all students with an excellent education in a safe and supportive environment, in partnership with staff, parents and the community. You are welcome to chat with me either through a phone call, or email me at [email protected].

Attendance & Bussing
It is crucial that we know when and why students are away. Please call the school 519 794 2729 x100 to leave a voice message for Mrs. Fullerton, our office manager, or text the school cell phone at 519-385-0923 (We do not take calls on the cell phone). When texting please ensure you include your child’s name and why they are away. The first time you text, please include whose phone you are texting from so we can add to our contact list (contacts get deleted over the summer).
If your student is absent and we don’t hear from you, we will be calling you or the emergency contact. Thank you for helping us with this important task.
Similarly, if your child is not riding the bus home, you can either call, send a note, or text the school cell phone. The earlier you can let us know the better. Bus lists are printed by 2 pm and when you call late in the day, it’s challenging to get that information to teachers before dismissal. Please do not email attendance information or bus changes as we may not get emails in time.
Pizza and Milk
Pizza, Subs and Milk are available for purchase through School Cash online, please check your email for contract updates. We appreciate Parent volunteers to assist in this.
School Community Council
The School Community Council will meet on February 1 @ 6:30. We always welcome new parents and community members. Come out to hear more about the wonderful supports provided by SCC!
Get Real Student Workshop
(junior & intermediate)
Along with other Bluewater schools HCCS will be hosting the Get Real Team to support learning about Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, one of our Board and Ministry of Education Priorities.
The Get Real Team will be at HCCS in April.
Presenters facilitate an interactive workshop with students that builds on the power of personal stories to spread kindness, celebrate uniqueness, and support one another. With age appropriateness in mind, the presentation highlights human connections and shared emotions, 2SLGBTQ+ discrimination, unlearning harmful language, and focuses on the impact we can have on one another through small acts of kindness.
IMPORTANT: If you are interested in volunteering within the school, your child's classroom or on field trips you must have a valid Police Criminal Records check. Please contact the office for more information.
Contact the school if you have an hour a week to volunteer!
Did you know there is a free math support program? Students in Grades 4 to 11 can get free math tutoring using Mathify.
